Reason #66849 Why President Obama Will Be Better Than Bush or McCain
Much of Iowa and other parts of the Midwest are underwater right now, and while President Bush is touring Europe and John McCain is AWOL, here’s what Barack Obama is doing:
Obama’s campaign is also urging supporters to volunteer or donate to the Red Cross.
Sure, there has to be some PR value behind everything Obama does between now and November, but, as Andrew Sullivan points out, disaster is yet another contrast between Obama and Bush.

Your message…Yup. Dugg. Also, blogged. Checkidout, if you like, right here.

What Barack Obama is doing is DIVERTING dozens of much needed police and emergency workers from helping Iowans to protecting and providing security for Obama and his entourage so Obama can get 30 seconds of film showing him filling sandbags!
Meanwhile, Bush and McCain are doing what all responsible politicians do, and that is stay clear of the emergency until their presence doesn’t divert attention, resources and personnel from their rescue and recovery work.
How selfish of Obama! Typical Democrat though. NOTHING is more important that a political opportunity.

Signing your name as “Fact Check” doesn’t absolve you of having to actually provide facts. The Secret Service detail that has been following Obama for the past few months is probably there with him, but I can’t find any account of “dozens of much needed police and emergency workers” being pulled away from their duties. On the contrary, his campaign canceled an event in Cedar Rapids over your very concerns:
So to say that Barack Obama is putting Iowans at risk for his own personal political gain is misguided at best.
