The Real World of Virginia

On MSNBC today yesterday, senior McCain advisor Nancy Pfotenhauer managed to piss off one million Northern Virginia voters in one fell swoop:

NANCY PFOTENHAUER: I certainly agree that Northern Virginia has gone more Democratic. As a proud resident of Oakton, VA, I can tell you that the Democrats have just come in from the District of Columbia and moved into northern Virginia [...] But the rest of this state — real Virginia if you will — will be very responsive to Sen. McCain’s message.
[...]
CORK: I’m gonna give you a chance to climb back off that ledge; did you say ‘real Virginia’?

PFOTENHAUER: [laughs] I did say outside of Northern– well, I mean real Virginia because Northern Virginia is where I’ve always been, but real Virginia, I take to be this part of the state that is more southern in nature. Northern Virginia is really metro DC, as you’re aware, Kevin.

CORK: Alright, I’m just gonna let ya– you’ll wear that one. I’m just, I’m just saying.

Is that right, Nancy? I’m just a carpetbagger from DC? Well, in case you’ve forgotten, here’s the last politician to mouth off about “Real Virginia:”

And here‘s how Virginians responded:
