- Conservatives who oppose Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination to the Supreme Court Conservatives have a new talking point today, that all nine Supreme Court justices disagreed with Sotomayor’s ruling in the firefighter discrimination case! Like many right-wing talking points, this is false, since four justices actually agreed with the second circuit’s ruling. Of course, facts and numbers are both known to have a liberal bias. (TPMDC)
- On the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, which began 40 years ago when New York police raided a gay bar in Greenwich Village, your Fort Worth Police Department raided a gay bar, for funsies. Seven men for arrested for “public intoxication”–or in other words, for having been drinking in a bar. Apparently officers were concerned that the gays might be a danger to others because of their gayness, which you can totally get from touching a gay, y’know. (Washington Blade)
- American Heroes FOX News, on their wingnut gathering website “The FOX Nation,” reported a satirical blog post as fact. And this is different from what FOX News does on a regular basis… how? (The FOX Nation)
- In 2009, the city of Venice now has its first female gondolier ever. All the men didn’t think she could do it, but she figured, “Hey, if I can push two children from my uterus into the world, this can’t be that much more difficult.” And she was right. (Some Australian paper, because what does America care about women and/or other parts of the world?)
