More GOP Facebook Racism

If Republicans really want to revitalize their image, they should just quit the internet forever. Just a few days after the Young Republicans elected Audra Shay, who embraced racist comments made on her Facebook wall (that is, before she was caught, denounced her friend, and scrubbed her profile), to be their national chairman, another Republican has stepped in it:

Republican establishment has often appeared worried that attacks on Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor, the first Latina nominated to the court, could appear racist. But the activists of the conservative movement are less concerned. In May, blogger Debbie Schlussel called Sotomayor “Justice J-Lo.” Now, the Washington Independent’s Dave Weigel reports that Jason Mattera, the spokesman for Young America’s Foundation, has posted a blatantly offensive message about Sotomayor on his Facebook page:

Mattera, according to his employers at the Young America’s Foundation, “is the surprisingly fresh face of conservatism.” If I were young conservative, I’d be ashamed to have him as the face of my movement.
