The Issues That Matter

By Eric on February 17, 2008

Sometimes, the traditional media really misses the issues that matter.

Right now, President Bush is in Africa on a “goodwill” (he still has some in Africa) tour of the continent. Today, he’s in Tanzania, where the big news should have been an almost $700 million grant to help the Tanzanian government stop the spread of malaria, a serious health problem in that country. CNN includes the details of the aid package in an article on the visit, but the headline and lede completely miss the point.

CNN reporting on the state of Shaq’s shoes.

No, despite what you might be thinking, this clip isn’t from The Onion:

CNN’s Front Page

Don’t make the mistake of just reading the headlines on CNN, or you might get the impression that Bush’s big gift to Tanzania is Shaquille O’Neal’s shoes, not the millions of dollars being spent to help combat Tanzania’s disease-ridden populace.

  1. Your message…Sometimes I wonder if our President is sane. Our country is having some major economical problems, and he is halfway around the world worried about other nations and giving them aid, give me a break, on second thought, I think our government is breaking off pretty hard on me already if you know what I mean.

  2. Nice to send money to Tanzania when we have hungry, homeless and sick here who could use it. Just leaves me all kinds of warm and fuzzy.
