Plouffe for Senate?
Ben Smith has an email from a “senior Democratic operative” suggesting that Delaware Gov. Ruth Ann Minner appoint Obama campaign manager and native Wilmingtonian David Plouffe to fill the Senate seat that Joe Biden will vacate when he is sworn in as Vice President in January. Hmmm…
Joe Biden Wins Twice!
In one of the odd quirks of the night, Joe Biden was re-elected to the U.S. Senate. Obviously, the Governor of Delaware will appoint someone to replace him, but still, a very excellent night for Vice President-Elect Biden.
Yes We Did!

It’s a beautiful morning in America.

(Also, sorry for the abrupt ending of yesterday’s liveblog after I lost internet access. I’m sure you all found the results somewhere else.)
Jill Biden’s Mother Passed Away Today
In case you haven’t already heard:
Bonny Jean Jacobs, 78, the mother-in-law of Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr., the Democratic vice-presidential nominee, died Sunday after a long illness, a spokesman for Mr. Biden said.
Mr. Biden, of Delaware, has canceled all campaign appearances Monday and Tuesday to be with his wife, Jill Jacobs Biden, and their families.
Mrs. Jacobs had been in hospice care in the Philadelphia suburbs, not far from the Bidens’ home in Wilmington, Del.
Mrs. Jacobs was the widow of Donald C. Jacobs, a savings and loan executive from Willow Grove, Pa., who died in 1999. Mrs. Jacobs stayed home to raise Jill and her four younger sisters. The couple was married for 50 years.
Condolences to the Biden family.
Video: Palin Only Knows One Supreme Court Case
Here it is, the one you’ve all been waiting for:
COURIC: What other Supreme Court decisions [other than Roe v. Wade] do you disagree with?
PALIN: Well, let’s see. There’s—of course –in the great history of America there have been rulings, that’s never going to be absolute consensus by every American. And there are–those issues, again, like Roe v Wade where I believe are best held on a state level and addressed there. So you know–going through the history of America, there would be others but…
COURIC: Can you think of any?
PALIN: Well, I could think of—of any again, that could be best dealt with on a more local level. Maybe I would take issue with. But you know, as mayor, and then as governor and even as a Vice President, if I’m so privileged to serve, wouldn’t be in a position of changing those things but in supporting the law of the land as it reads today.
To her credit, she does appear to know that as Vice President she would be responsible for enforcing Supreme Court decisions. Which means that she is at least vaguely familiar with the United States Constitution.
In any case, compare with Joe Biden’s answer to the question of whether he disagrees with any SCOTUS decisions.
Update: TPM’s Eric Kleefeld:
There is a certain irony here. John McCain has long criticized Barack Obama forspeaking in platitudes, and then he went and picked a running mate who apparently can only think in platitudes.
Update 2: By the way, did you notice Sarah Palin say that there’s an inherent Constitutional right to privacy? The right on which the Roe decision is based? Clearly she knows the doesn’t like Roe v. Wade, but I’m not sure she knows why.
Quote of the Day
Atrios brings us the quote of the day:
Republican MSNBC strategist talking about Biden “the human gaffe machine:”
- Here’s a guy who thought FDR was president during the Great Depression.
Probably thinks the WPA is one of those gangster rap groups.
Biden Takes the Warmongers to Task
The next Vice President of the United States rips Republican war hawks a new one for their support of George Bush’s failed war in Iraq.
Please Pick Rudy
With the selection of Joe Biden has Obama’s running mate confirmed, I’m begging John McCain to pick Rudy Giuliani as his running mate. Why? Because the Vice Presidential Debate is at my school in October and I would love to see and hour of this:
