Sen. Lieberman’s Pants Are On Fire
I probably already know the answer to this question, but is anyone in our news media (other than terrible liberal bloggers, of course) going to call out Joe Lieberman for his unambiguously false lie that Barack Obama never mentioned a public option when he ran for president?
Then again, you can’t really blame Lieberman for not knowing where the Democratic candidate for president stood on anything since he was John McCain’s almost-running mate.

Just Who Does This Obama Guy Think He Is, the President?

- President Obama called Cambridge PD Sgt. James Crowley to invite him down to the White House for a couple beers, and then Crowley will arrest him for disorderly conduct. (MSNBC First Read)
- Isn’t it weird how this whole “birther” thing never came up during the presidential race? Oh wait, that’s be cause the McCain Campaign investigated the rumors but found no evidence that Obama was not an American citizen. (Washington Independent)
- Whaaat, the Twitter is blocked in the White House? Why does the Obama administration hate those Iranian protestors (who we all stopped caring about weeks ago) so much? (Think Progress)
- Oh, here is some more stimulus spending for you. This time it’s for “education,” another one of Nobama’s socialist plots. (CNN Political Ticker)
- Your highly respected Washington Post reports that President Obama will attend “some kind of public function” in August in support of Creigh Deeds, the Democratic candidate for Virginia governor. Journalism! (WaPo Virginia Politics)

Monday Afternoon Update
- The Electoral College meets today for its quadrenniel reminder that we still have an Electoral College for some reason. Oh, and electors, it’s spelled O-B-A-M-A. (New York Times).
- South Carolina GOP Chair and candidate for head of the RNC Katon Dawson has come under fire for his membership in a whites-only country club, but that whole mess is all cleared up now as two-thirds of black RNC members have endorsed his candidacy. And by two-thirds, I literally mean two out of the three. (Ben Smith)
- The Supreme Court has denied to hear a second appeal questioning Barack Obama’s citizenship and qualification to hold the presidency. Damn those activist judges Scalia, Alito, Roberts, and Thomas! Anyway, expect bored lawyer Republicans to keep this up for the next few years. (CNN)
- Life’s not all bad for Rod Blagojevich! The Scrabble Club of America has honored Blago as their Man of the Year “for focusing the world’s spotlight on randomly scrambled letters as a limitless source of wholesome fun.” Finally, a way to get rid of the J and the V! (Washington Independent)

McCain Campaign Sells Blackberry with Campaign Info Still On It
In case you’re still wondering why McCain lost, you can start with the morons who ran his campaign:
It started with a snippet we read on page A23 in Thursday’s Washington Post. The McCain-Palin campaign was going to sell its used office inventory at low prices.
…
The hottest item? Blackberry phones at $20 a piece. There were only 10 left. All of the batteries had died. There were no chargers for sale. But people were snatching them up. So, we bought a couple.
And ended up with a lot more than we bargained for.
When we charged them up in the newsroom, we found one of the $20 Blackberry phones contained more than 50 phone numbers for people connected with the McCain-Palin campaign, as well as hundreds of emails from early September until a few days after election night.
We traced the Blackberry back to a staffer who worked for “Citizens for McCain,” a group of democrats who threw their support behind the Republican nominee. The emails contain an insider’s look at how grassroots operations work, full of scheduling questions and rallying cries for support.
But most of the numbers were private cell phones for campaign leaders, politicians, lobbyists and journalists.
We called some of the numbers.
“Somebody made a mistake,” one owner told us. “People’s numbers and addresses were supposed to be erased.”
“They should have wiped that stuff out,” another said. But he added, “Given the way the campaign was run, this is not a surprise.”
We called the McCain-Palin campaign, who says, “it was an unfortunate staff error and procedures are being put in place to ensure all information is secure.”
But we wonder– Did we get the only Blackberry with personal campaign information in it? Or did you get one too?
Aaahahahahahahahaha.

Joe the Plumber Lashes Out at McCain, and more
- Joe the Plumber reveals that he was actually “appalled” by McCain and his campaign, but he stayed on the campaign bus anyway because he was afraid of the black guy and also wanted to drill, baby, drill Sarah Palin. Way to stand up for your convictions, asshole. (Politico)
- Sen. Dick Durbin wants a special election to fill Barack Obama’s Senate seat, taking the power of appointment away from indicted douchebag Rod Blagojevich. Of course, the only problem is that any bill to hold a special election would have to be signed by, you guessed it, Blago himself. Good luck with that one. (MSNBC)
- In other Blago-news, add Attorney General Lisa Madigan to the growing list of people who wants Blagojevich out of office. If he doesn’t resign and if the legislature fails to impeach him in a timely manner, Madigan is prepared to ask the Illinois Supreme Court to vote Blago out of office, which they can do under a somewhat obscure court rule. (Chicago Sun-Times)
- Moving on to more hilarious crimes committed by elected officials, the Minnesota Court of Appeals rejected Idaho Sen. Larry “Wide Stance” Craig’s appeal to withdraw his previous guilty plea in the infamous Minnesota airport bathroom sex sting case. The court ruled that tapping his foot in an adjacent bathroom stall in order to solicit sex is not protected under the First Amendment. Damn! (Bloomberg)

- Obama speechwriter Jon Favreau learned the perils of the Intertubes after pictures of him groping a cardboard cutout of Hillary Clinton appeared on his Facebook profile. He has privately offered Clinton one of the most awkward apologies in American history. (CNN)
- Expect to hear soon that Chris Matthews has signed a long-term contract with MSNBC to continue hosting Hardball, which would take him out of the running for the Pennsylvania Senate. Arlen Specter breathes a sigh of relief. (Politico)
- It looks like Louisiana’s 4th Congressional election (one of two that was held yesterday) will go into a recount, as Republican John Fleming leads Democrat Paul Carmouche by only 356 votes. Provisional ballots, which tend to favor Democrats, were not counted in the current totals. The district is currently held by retiring Republican Jim McCrery. If Carmouche wins, it would make up for the seat lost by indicted Democratic Rep. William Jefferson. (KSLA)
- Bronx Borough president Adolfo Carrion Jr. hinted on Friday that he may be tapped for Obama’s cabinet. Most speculation suggests that he will be asked to head HUD. (New Haven Independent)

Franken Claims Recount Lead, and more
- Marc Elias, chief recount lawyer for Al Franken’s campaign, announced that Franken now leads Coleman by 22 votes according to the campaign’s recount results tracking. This is the first time in the entire process that the Franken camp has claimed a lead. Could we have 59 Democratic Senators when Congress convenes in January? (TPM Election Central)
- 75% of Americans approve of Obama’s Cabinet picks so far, according to a CNN poll. And then, of course, the rest of the poll is about whether Obama or Clinton will actually be president. Good times. (CNN)
- And in other Cabinet news, could the first black president appoint the first openly gay secretary? Mary Beth Maxwell, a labor activist and out lesbian, is reportedly on the shortlist for Secretary of Labor. (Wall Street Journal)
- The economy is so bad that the Bushes are only buying a house for Christmas. Yeah, you read that right. While you’re all having you homes foreclosed, George and Laura Bush are buying a house that’s two hours away from the ranch they already own. Also, we can all eat cake for Christmas. (ABC News)

- In the midst of this economic disaster, some Congressmen have decided to take advantage of Barack Obama’s displeasure with the BCS and are considering opening a Congressional investigation. Basically, the BCS messed with Texas (specifically the University of Texas) and now a bipartisan cohort consisting of Congressmen Abercrombie (D-HI), Westmoreland (R-GA), Matheson (D-UT), and Simpson (R-ID) want to bring the BCS down. - It’s Election Day in Georgia, again. The fine people of the Peach State just can’t get enough of voting, so they’re having a runoff election for the state’s Senate seat. If you live in Georgia and haven’t gone to vote for Jim Martin, do it! (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
- The DC Republican Party (all three members) is challening the election of Michael Brown to an at-large seat on the city council. The DC GOP argues that Brown, who is a registered independent and ran as an independent, is actually a secret Democrat, unbeknownst even to himself! DC law prevents all four at-large council seats from being held by the same party even though 93% of DC residents voted Democratic in November’s election. (Examiner)
- The Liberals are staging a coup! No, I’m not talking about Barack Obama’s election, these are the Canadian Liberals, eh. They’ve signed a pact two other Candidan opposition parties that would allow them to take control of the government away from Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s Conservative Party. But, you know, they’re being very polite about it. (Toronto Star)
- Israel’s Labor Party has canceled their primary elections due to problems with electronic voting machines. No word yet on what the exact glitch was, but Labor is going to have a do-over with paper ballots next week. Is this something Americans could be seeing in our near future if we keep relying on electronic voting machines? (Haaretz)
