Friday Morning Update
- Well, the Big 3 bailout failed in the Senate last night because Senate Republicans didn’t want to pay auto workers a fair wage, to which the auto workers shockingly objected. Anyway, it now falls to the White House to take some of the money previously allocated to bailing out millionaire bankers and use it to bail out some $50k-per-year blue collar workers. Good luck selling that one to the millionaires. (Washington Post/Politico)
- Convicted felon Sen. Ted Stevens is a sore loser. He refuses to meet with Mark Begich, the man who will replace him in the United States Senate in January. Maybe Stevens tried to send him an email, but it got tangled up with all these things going on the Internet commercially. (Anchorage Daily News/Wikipedia)
- Clinton supporters are putting pressure on NY Gov. David Paterson not to appoint Caroline Kennedy to fill Hillary Clinton’s Senate seat, noting that Kennedy has never been elected to any office. I thought dashing good looks and poltical experience were hereditary in the Kennedy family? (NY Daily News)
- Illinois House Democrats and Republicans are meeting to discuss the logistics of impeaching Gov. Rod Blagojevich. Huzzah for bipartisanship! Also, Illinois newspaper editorial boards are humorously conflicted over whether Blaggy should resign or be impeached. Hmmmm…. (AP/FOX News)

Obama Meets the Gore-acle, and more
- President-Elect Barack Obama will meet with former Vice President Al Gore tomorrow to talk about climate change we can believe in! Gore has previously said that he does not want any cabinet-level post in the Obama administration. (Reuters)
- Remember Vito Fossella? He’s the Congressman whose reelection bid ended last May after he was arrested in Virginia for drunk driving while on the way home from visiting his mistress and illegitimate child, or, as such people are commonly known, a dumbass Republican. Anywho, he’ll be spending 5 days in jail in Alexandria since his BAC was 0.17, more than twice the legal limit. (CNN)
- Well, this morning it was the Tribune, and now the recession has come to the Gray Lady. The New York Times is taking out a mortgage on its headquarters in order to get some desperately needed cash. (AFP)
- Move over, Caroline Kennedy! Fran Drescher–yes, as in The Nanny–says she’s qualified to replace Hillary Clinton in the U.S. Senate. She’s never held public office, but then again, neither has Caroline Kennedy. Of course, that would be the end of C-Span. (New York Magazine)

- OJ Simpson is headed to the juicer. He was sentenced to 33 years in prison for his role in an armed robbery at a Las Vegas casino last year. He’ll be eligible for parole in 9 years at which point he can go back to his normal life of leading police on car chases and pretending he’s not a murderer. (CNN)
