Dems Will Have to Find a New Cash Cow to Screw Over
- The gays are tired of the DNC always asking them for money and then totally ignoring them when it comes to, y’know, any political progress, so they have cleverly decided to stop sending the DNC money until said political progress is realized. (AMERICAblog)
- Sarah Palin wonders why anyone would want to move “In God We Trust,” our nation’s motto, to the side of our coins instead of keeping it on the front. Is it because Kenyan Muslims like Barack Obama do not believe in America’s God, the Christian one? Actually, George W. Bush did this thing in 2005 and then undid it in 2007, but still: Muslims! (Raw Story)
- A group of 40 House Democrats has said that they will vote against the final healthcare reform bill if it contains Bart Stupak’s wire coat hanger amendment. So now the question is, will the left cave like they usually do? (Washington Post)
- Oh look, the “Tea Party” is now an official political party in the great state of Florida, joining the ranks of such esteemed parties as the Prohibition Party and the (gasp!) Socialist Workers Party! Good luck with those terrible ballots, Floridians!

John Ensign’s Parents Have Some Cash for Everyone These Days
- Sen. John Ensign’s parents, who famously paid off the family of Ensign’s mistress, are also maxed-out donors to Harry Reid’s re-election campaign. Is John Ensign having an affair with him now too? Or is John Ensign, along with the rest of the Senate GOP, only metaphorically screwing Reid? (CQ Politics)
- Losing his job and his health insurance left one Wisconsin man with no choice but to join the Army to pay for his wife’s chemotherapy. So please, Congress, just take your time with this whole healthcare reform thing. (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)
- And speaking of which, given the choice between passing a public option with only Democratic votes and failing to do anything in a spectacular but bipartisan way, most Americans choose the public option. Hopefully this influences the only person whose vote really matters, Queen Olympia I. (ABC News)
- The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is deeply disappointed that anyone thought that they might actually believe in global warming, and they would like to reinforce that they definitely do not think climate change is happening. (CNN Political Ticker)
- The DNC demands that the RNC start mopping up the mess in Washington and stop… kicking over the bucket of nasty grey mop-water? This mop analogy was good for a while, but I think it’s gone about as far as it can go. (MSNBC First Read)

We Are All Kenyans
- Have you seen Orly Taitz’s Kenyan birth certificate yet? Incontrovertible evidence! (KenyanBirthCerficiateGenerator.com)
- The teabaggers have an exciting new way of expressing their opposition to healthcare reform: physically assaulting members of Congress! (Roll Call via Think Progress)
- Your DNC is interested in whether the RNC’s refrigerators are running, and vice versa. (Ben Smith)
- Retiring Sen. Kit Bond (R-MO) will never have to run for office again in Missouri, so he will vote for Sonia Sotomayor. (CNN Political Ticker)
- What a shame! Your Washington Post has canceled Dana Milbank and Chris Cilizza’s “Hillary Clinton is a Huge Bitch Comedy Hour” series of YouTube videos. (WaPo)

Half a Trillion Here, Half a Trillion There

- In a stunning show of bipartisanship, staffers for the Republican and Democratic National Committees teamed up to beat the crap out of poor Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL). (Roll Call)
- Republican members of your Senate Judiciary Committee thought they could catch Sonia Sotomayor off-guard yesterday by asking her about guns and abortion, but–quelle surprise!–somehow she saw those questions coming. (NYT)
- Hillary Clinton has almost finished paying off her debts from that time Barack Obama won the Democratic nomination for president because of sexism. Now she only has to pay Mark Penn, who famously said Obama could never win the general election, for his highly valuable services! (CNN Political Ticker/USA Today)
- The crack team of reporters at your Associated Press is almost accurately reporting the cost of Democrats’ healthcare reform bill. They’re only off by half a trillion dollars, or $500,000,000,000. (TPMDC)

Forget Elections, Let’s Just Play Softball Instead
There is only one thing in Washington taken more seriously than elections and that is intramural softball! This weekend, the RNC “Teabaggers” defeated the DNC “Democrat-Socialists” by a score of 5-4, which, in wingnut-speak means 9-0. This stunning victory entitled the RNC to say mean things about Democrats via email, something which would not have taken place under any other cirumstances. (CNN/Media Matters)

SCOTUS Reverses Sotomayor’s Decision to Send All White People to Gitmo
- Your Republican Party of Virginia is not mad at Gov. Tim Kaine, but they are very “disappointed.” Kaine’s new job as chairman of the DNC requires him to travel out of state for various political functions, like top-secret Applachian Trail hikes, which the GOP does not approve of. (Washington Post)
- The Supreme Court ruled today that white New Haven firefighters had been discriminated against when a promotion test was thrown out by the city. This ruling reverses an earlier decision by Sonia Sotomayor, which she had based entirely on her double-secret racism. Who’s the “wise Latina” now, hmm? (Alito??) (MSNBC)
- Oh and speaking of the Supreme Court, retiring Justice David Souter bid farewell to his fellow justices today, saying that they had “touched me far more than I can say.” Ewww, Scalia, that is gross. (CNN)
- This Mark Sanford guy, who is governor of South Carolina, is going back to work today. This is newsworthy, for some reason, but since coverage of Michael Jackson’s death has blotted out all of last week’s news from America’s memory, we have no idea why. (CNN, also)

Gov. Quinn, the RNC vs. McCain, and More
- Illinoisians, this “Pat Quinn” character is your new Governor! You can tell how different he is from Blago because he is bald. Change We Can Believe In! (CNN)
- So after John McCain failed to win them the presidency, the RNC filed a lawsuit to overturn McCain’s favorite law, the Bipartisan Campaign Reform Act aka McCain-Feingold. Now the DNC has joined the lawsuit… in defense of the act! Thank God for bipartisanship. (MOAR CNN!)
- A picture is worth a thousand words. These two are no exception. (Feministe)
- Chip Saltsman was not able to woo Republicans with his Magic Negro Christmas CDs, so he is dropping out of the RNC Chairman race. (Nashville Post)
- President Obama is considering Republican Sen. Judd Gregg for Secretary of Commerce. Gregg’s replacement would be named by New Hampshire’s Democratic governor, giving Dems 60 Senate seats.

Capital Crime Scene

- Obama transition spokeswoman Stephanie Cutter says no Cabinet nominations will be named this week. If anyone says otherwise, Rahm Emanuel will beat them with a dead fish.* Too bad. We could use a new Treasury Secretary–see below. (Reuters)
- So while we were all focused on the $700 billion bailout package, the Treasury Department slipped the banks a secret windfall of $140 billion in tax breaks. Like most of what the Bush Administration has done in the past eight years, this was porbably illegal. Meanwhile, the Fed has loaned almost $2 trillion of your money and refuses to say where the money went. Man, I can’t wait to kick these crooks out of Washington on January 20. (Washington Post/Bloomberg)
- Howard Dean is upholding his one-term pledge and will step down as DNC chairman. Hopefully this isn’t the end of 50-state strategy because, y’know, it worked. Claire McCaskill’s name is being floated around as a possible replacement, which I’ll support as long as she can keep her Senate seat at the same time. (Huffington Post)
- Speaking of DNC chairs, former DNC chair Terry McAuliffe has filed papers to run for Governor of Virginia in 2009. (Tim Kaine is limited to one term.) There are already two declared Democratic candidates, so this is going to get interesting. (CNN)

Late Night Around the Blogosphere
It’s Sunday night or Monday morning, depending on what time zone you’re in. What did you miss while you were sleeping?
- Remember that time when everyone said nominating a black guy was a mistake because Hispanics would never vote for him? Or when people said putting money into Republican strongholds like Virginia and North Carolina was a waste of resources? jdawg1077 takes us back to all the things the pundits got wrong about the 2008 elections. (DailyKos)
- And while I’m over at DKos, JeffLieber posts his conversation with his six year-old daughter about California’s Prop 8. Turns out gay marriage really is hard to explain to a child, when it’s banned. (DailyKos)
- Meanwhile, for those who are still dealing with how Prop 8 affects them, Melissa Etheridge has a suggestion: if the state of California isn’t going to treat her like a first-class citizen, she’s not paying her first-class taxes. Doesn’t sounds like a bad idea to me. (The Daily Beast)
- So remember all that “change” stuff that Barack Obama’s been talking about for the past couple years? Well, it’s finally coming and… let’s just say you might want to keep track of your guns, flags, and daughters. (23/6)
- The RNC and McCain campaign contacted 30 million voters directly (including with robocalls) before the election. Team Obama contacted 68 million. I guess that kinda explains why this whole election thing turned out the way it did. (Marc Ambinder)

Lunchtime Update!
It’s 43 degrees in St. Louis and I’m staying inside as long as possible. Check out all the cool stuff I found on the ‘tubes!
- In the Virginia 5th, Democrat Tom Periello declared victory yesterday with a 750 vote lead over incumbent Virgil Goode. Goode attained national noteriety two years ago when he condemned newly-elected Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), a Muslim, for choosing to take the oath of office on Thomas Jefferson’s Qur’an. Needless to say, Goode will not be missed. (Roll Call/The Nation)
- There’s a rumor floating around that the DNC’s “50 State Strategy” organizers will be fired at the end of the month. The 50 state strategy was repsonsible for the Obama campaign’s decision to put resources in ridiculous places like Virginia, North Carolina, Nevada, and… wait a minute. The DNC is going to get rid of the 50 state strategy because it won? If this rumor is true, it is so something the Democratic Party would do. (Firedoglake)
- Metro is asking the Treasury Department for a $400 million bailout. It seems that Metro hired AIG to insure all of its loans, but thanks to AIG’s EPIC FAIL the banks are asking Metro for all their money back. As someone who rides the Metro, I can guarantee that the entire federal government will shut down if it can’t operate. (WTOP)
- President-Elect Obama held his first post-election press conference today, fielding questions on critical issues like fixing the economy, who will be in his cabinet, and what kind of dog he’s going to buy for his daughters. No, that last one’s not a joke. (Chicago Sun-Times)
