Things Republicans “Never” Do

  • Dear soldiers, you will face a court martial if your reason for refusing to deploy sounds something  like “THAT MUSLIN OBAMAR CANT MAKE ME DO NOTHIN.” (MSNBC)
  • And speaking of the president, looks like his Kenyofascist Socialism has actually reduced the deficit. The tea bag brigade is not gonna like that. (WaPo)
  • Democrats have asked Republicans not to filibuster judicial nominees. In strong language! Hahaha that is so cute   but they will probably do it anyway. (CNN)
  • Twitter has come up with the totally unheard of, hi-tech, Web 7.0 money-making technique of just sticking text ads that look like tweets into your Twitter searches. How 22nd century! (AP)
  • Apple is coming out with a new version of the Macbook Pro, which is basically just an iPad but with a keyboard and mousepad instead of a touchscreen. Lame. (CNET)

Only Republicans Can Accomplish Things

That’s basically the message I just got from Sen. Tom Carper (D-DE) on NPR. Asked what Democrats plan to do to end the Republican-caused gridlock in the Senate, Carper answered that there’s nothing we can do but wait for a Republican-controlled Congress and a Republican president in the White House, at which point Republicans will ensure that they get an up-or-down vote on their legislation. Ugh. Not what I’d expect to hear from a party that plans on being in power for any while longer.

Update: I’ll put up a transcript once I can find one. No transcript, but you can listen to the broadcast here.

  • Rep. Patrick Kennedy will not run for re-election for the position of Congress’ token Kennedy. (Providence Journal)
  • Democratic Senators, who couldn’t pass legislation when they had 60 votes, would like to end the filibuster, a move which requires 67 votes. Good luck with that! (The Hill)
  • Missouri Sen. Gary Nodler wants to keep “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” because he’s worried gay soldiers would offend the terrorists. (STL Post-Dispatch)
  • The White House is getting excited that a Supreme Court justice might kick off soon. (CNN)
  • Lockheed Martin eulogized Rep. John Murtha in today’s Washington Post by reminding us just how deep the distinguished gentleman from Pennsylvania was in their pocket. (TPM)
