Tx. School District to Bus Students to President’s Speech
No, not that president:
The Arlington Independent School District, which passed on airing President Barack Obama’s live classroom address, has announced that some students will be bussed off campus to hear a message from former President George W. Bush on Sept. 21.
District officials said it’s part of a Cowboys Stadium field trip that the North Texas Super Bowl Host Committee invited 28 fifth-grade classes to attend several months ago.
In addition to hearing from Bush and former first lady Laura Bush, the students will hear from legendary Dallas Cowboys players and North Texas business and community leaders. The event launches the Super Bowl committee’s largest-ever youth education program.
So the former President of the United States talking to kids about the Super Bowl during regular class time is okay, but the current President of the United States talking to kids about staying in school during regular class time is socialist mind control. Right.

Rick Perry Wants that Stimulus Money He Rejected Back

Texas Gov. Rick Perry was against the stimulus so much that he even threatened to secede from the Union… but you probably already predicted where this post was going:
Texas is now asking the federal government for a $170 million loan so that [unemployment] benefits keep getting paid.
“This is nothing out of the ordinary. We’re following protocol that we put in place,” said Governor Rick Perry.
…
Financial reasons highlight the fact that this loan would be one of many.
“We are expecting to need to borrow about $650 million from the federal government through October 1st, to pay for unemployment benefits”, Hatchitt said.
Oh, the teabaggers are not going to like this one bit. Doesn’t Rick Perry know that unemployment benefits, and keeping people out of the poorhouse in general, is totally socialism??

George Bush Will Always Treasure the Time He Personally Arrested Saddam Hussein

- The centerpiece of the George W. Bush Presidential Library will be Saddam Hussein’s gun which Bush kept in the Oval Office so he could pull it out and shout, “See! Mission Accomplished!” whenever someone mentioned that we were kinda still fighting in Iraq after 2003. (New York Times)
- Woohoo! A federal judge ruled that GM can go ahead with its restructuring plan by selling off everything to the government. Camaros for everyone! (New York Times again, because the Washington Post can no longer be trusted)
- Vice President Biden will swear in Al Franken tomorrow as America’s 100th Senator. Who has to pick up the pieces of Bill O’Reilly’s head after it explodes? (MSNBC)
- So it’s another work day for America’s Governor™ Mark Sanford, now back from his family’s Independence Day vacation. Making up for missing Father’s Day, I guess. Anyway, state Republicans are keeping busy deciding whether to impeach Sanford now or later. (CNN)
- Uh oh, Texas teabaggers do not care for Republicans Sen. John Cornyn and Gov. Rick “The Hair” Perry. Cornyn was booed for not letting the U.S. economy sink into oblivion while Perry earned boos for, um, toll roads? (Austin American-Statesman)

Poll finds 23% of Texans think Obama is Muslim
WASHINGTON — A University of Texas poll to be released today shows Republican presidential candidate John McCain and GOP Sen. John Cornyn leading by comfortable margins in Texas, as expected. But the statewide survey of 550 registered voters has one very surprising finding: 23 percent of Texans are convinced that Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama is a Muslim.
On the other hand, they can’t really be pissed off about Rev. Wright if they don’t think he’s a Christian.
